Artist Bio

Alyson Davies is a visual artist based in Edmonton, Alberta, whose work explores the intimate connections between women and nature in a changing landscape. Her large-scale oil paintings place contemporary female figures within vibrant worlds that reflect both resilience and vulnerability, weaving themes of abundance, endurance, and transformation. Inspired by art history, folk craft and contemporary illustration, Davies reimagines these influences, informed by her own photographs, sketches, and memories.

Davies’ practice includes public art installations featured in the Capture Photography Festival, as well as murals across Canada and the U.S. Her tarot decks have been collected world-wide and acquired into the library collections of Harvard University and MIT. Her work has been featured by CBC Arts, Chatelaine Magazine, and Canadian Art Magazine. Informed by residencies in diverse natural settings, including New York, The Yukon and Colorado, Davies’ work draws connections between environmental strain and abundance. Her pieces invite reflection on humanity’s resilient connection with nature, emphasizing both beauty and responsibility in a shared world.

Artist Statement

These paintings are an exploration of the aspen parkland through the stories of dreams, lived experience and imagined realities. My interest in ritual, folktale and family history are embodied and synthesized through the act of painting. The work is an invitation to the viewer to experience beauty, enchantment, transformation and introspection within our winter landscape.
