The Works Art & Design Festival Brings Fusion of Art, Music, and Culture to Edmonton’s Sir Winston Churchill Square beginning June 27th
Edmonton – The Works Art & Design Festival is set to kick off Edmonton’s festival season on Thursday, June 27th beginning at noon! The Works is a five-day extravaganza of creativity and inspiration running from June 27 to July 1.
This year’s festival guarantees an unparalleled experience with larger-than-life art installations, captivating musical performances, and a vibrant atmosphere that celebrates the intersection of art and community.
Located in the heart of Edmonton at Sir Winston Churchill Square, The Works is a free event for the public. Attendees can expect to be dazzled by an array of interactive displays, immersive art experiences, and a diverse lineup of performances that highlight local and international talent.
The Works Art & Design Festival aims to blur the lines between artist and audience, offering everyone the chance to engage deeply with art in all its forms. Find the full list of artists in this year’s festival here.
Key Highlights of The Works Art & Design Festival 2024:
Trojan Horse – Marvel at the colorful and thought-provoking sea-can entranceway by José Luis Torres, challenging perceptions of consumption and excess. Interviews available in both French and English.
BellCurve – Experience nightly sound compositions using the City Hall Clocktower bells, transporting visitors into a dream-like narrative through innovative soundscapes.
SUPERGARDEN – Wander through Jill Stanton’s larger-than-life flower sculptures, transforming Churchill Square into a whimsical garden that transports viewers to another realm.
Come mek mi hole yuh han – Participate in a Jamaican maypole dance workshop by Raneece Buddan, celebrating cultural traditions and community through interactive art.
Inside the Picture – Step into Giuseppi Albi’s virtual reality exhibit at the Stanley Milner Library, offering a unique perspective of abstract art through cutting-edge VR technology.
In addition to these captivating installations, The Works Street Stage will feature five days of performances by Alberta musicians, sponsored by Alley Kat, providing an eclectic soundtrack to the festival. Art enthusiasts can also participate in artist-led workshops and enjoy expanded Canada Day festivities with an enhanced lineup of performances and activities.
