The Works 2024 Summer Solstice Celebration exhibiting artists

Deirdre McCleneghan

“My work shares elements of art and design that stem from the history of Surrealism, in the areas of fashion, design and identity. My continued growth as an artist is presently leading in multiple directions including potential collaborative and performative work. It has been both a natural progression and an exciting challenge to think about work that has site specificity, and is tailored to, and informs narrative that incorporates multiple layers of audience, subject, setting, and time.”

My idea for a collection of hand/made, hand painted/hand printed aprons came from an interest in wearable art, the strong feminine association with the apron, and its history as protection for clothing as well as its predilection for decoration. It has been both a natural progression and an exciting challenge to learn how to draft a 3D garment from an original 2D design and work with the proportions of my body.
