Artist Statement

We live in a world of vast uncertainty and chaos, instilling in many of us a deep sense of powerlessness. How can a sense of power be regained when we are utterly immersed in this fast-moving and unpredictable reality? How can we even begin to process things that are too overwhelming to put into words? How can we avoid falling into a state of passive acceptance in favour of active engagement?

I propose a starting point rooted in visual expression. All art is an act of rearranging pre-existing elements. One can regain a sense of power by manipulating those elements that are handed to us; at least those that are within our control. One can start to process one’s reality by externalizing it in the form of a collage. Once externalized, patterns and narratives begin to emerge. Then one can begin to understand from a new perspective, and restore a sense of order and self-determination.

Join me in exploring this concept through the act of collage. Contribute on the collective level to the large collaborative piece, or on the individual level with a small piece. Let’s then bring our pieces together to take back power by creating new and meaningful macro- and micro-narratives, and everything in between.

about the artist

I reside and work in Edmonton, Alberta, and have been drawing since the age of 3 years old.  I hold a Fine Arts Diploma and Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from MacEwan University.  I work in a variety of mediums with a focus on collage, drawing, and painting.  I am most interested in exposing the creative process, art as therapy, and exploring strategies for collaboration.
